THE SENIOR COMMAND AND STAFF COURSE INTAKE 13 CONDUCTED AN INTERNATIONAL STUDY TOUR ON ENHANCING NATIONAL CAPABILITY TO ADDRESS CONTEMPORARY SECURITY CHALLENGES FROM 10 TO 14 FEBRUARY 2025
Musanze on 14 February 2025
The Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College (RDFCSC) annually undertakes the International Study Tour (IST) as an integral part of the Senior Command and Staff Course (SCSC) curriculum. The IST, a unique learning opportunity that complements the Policy and Strategy theories taught in the Security Studies Modules, provides student officers exposure and an invaluable platform for understanding how different countries address security challenges. This key curriculum component tour also offers students a chance to enhance their understanding of the visited countries' history, defence and security, and geopolitical and socio-economic developments.
The purpose of IST 2025 was to broaden the students’ regional understanding of global security issues and the nexus between policy, strategy, development, and national security through inter-agency cooperation within the visited countries.
The SCSC 13 this year consists of 108 participants and 20 Directing Staff (DS) for the IST, divided into seven groups: Qatar, Bangladesh, Ghana, Jordan, Morocco, Sri Lanka, and Turkey.
The IST 2025 objectives were:
a. To give the students insights into the challenges affecting national socio-economic transformation.
b. To understand the foreign policies that guide political posture, security, and economic strategies.
c. To study the role of security organs in socio-economic development.
d. To identify the significant social, cultural, political, diplomatic, economic, and military factors that shape the geo-strategic context.
The tour was very beneficial to SCSC 13 students as they learned much regarding policies and strategies the seven countries put in place to ensure their national peace and security. The RDFCSC one-week-long International Study Tour from 10th to 14th February 2025 was very educational and successful, as the delegations returned to Rwanda after completing the tour safely and satisfied.
