TANZANIA AND BURKINA FASO INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION
On 11 December 2025, the Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College (RDFCSC) fraternity celebrated the 64th Independence Day of the United Republic of Tanzania and the 65th Independence Day of the Republic of Burkina Faso. Those celebrations were attended by students of SCSC 14, Faculty members, and College staff.
On 9 December 1961, Tanganyika gained independence from British colonial rule under the visionary leadership of Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, whose ideals of justice, equality and unity shaped the nation. In 1964, Tanganyika united with Zanzibar under late president Sheikh Abeid Amani Karume, forming the United Republic of Tanzania. This union remains one of Africa’s most enduring symbols of cooperation and brotherhood.
Beside, Burkina Faso gained independence from France colonial rule on 5 August 1960. Burkina Faso, formerly Haute-Volta, adopted its current name in 1984 under President Thomas Sankara to symbolize dignity, justice, and a rejection of colonial domination. Today, Burkina Faso faces complex threats, most notably terrorism, which challenges the territorial integrity. Under the leadership of His Excellency Captain Ibrahim Traoré, all national instruments of power are mobilized to restore peace, stability and cohesion across the territory.
The joint celebration at RDFCSC underscored the shared historical experiences and enduring bonds among African nations, while reaffirming the commitment of future military leaders for regional cooperation, stability, and collective security.
The Deputy Commandant & Chief Instructor Brig Gen JC NGENDAHIMANA, the faculty members, and students of SCSC 14 showed their respect for the National Anthem by honoring the flags of both Countries.

This occasion was presided over by the College Deputy Commandant & Chief Instructor Brig Gen JC NGENDAHIMANA.
