THE HONORABLE MINISTER OF NATIONAL DEFENCE OF MOZAMBIQUE WITH HIS DELEGATION VISITED RWANDA DEFENCE FORCE COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE (RDFCSC)

Musanze, 24 August 2025

The Minister of National Defence of Mozambique, Honourable Major General Cristóvão Artur Chume, was in Rwanda for a three-day working visit aimed at strengthening existing defence cooperation. He was accompanied by the Army Commander Maj Gen André Rafael Mahunguane, Brig Gen Anastácio Zaqueu Barassa, National Director for Defence Policy, MOD, Brig Gen Omar Nalá Saranga, the Director of Operations FADM HQs, as well as two Senior Officers and two Junior Officers. They also visited RDFCSC, where they participated in presentations and discussions highlighting the College’s strides in digital modernization.

The Minister of National Defence of Mozambique, Honourable Maj Gen Cristóvão Artur Chume, noted “Sometimes, a majority of time we cooperate with the countries that have a cooperation environment totally different from us. We African countries have an operational environment that approach is closer similarities in terms of risks and the threats that we face. We have to see it as an opportunity to strengthen our comparison, and also to facilitate the exchange between our institutions. In our site we’ll do everything in order to have the space for anything that can happen. We have a lot to learn from Rwanda, and we also do believe that Rwanda has got a lot to learn from us. We didn’t have time for peace. We are a country that since its independence we are suffering from war. Therefore, we had some lessons to teach others that we can share with other countries including internal efforts for peace that we are building. In general, we would like to reiterate our thanks for this opportunity to visit this institution today. Thank you very much,” he said.

The Mozambican delegation was briefed on the strong and growing ties between the Republic of Mozambique and the Republic of Rwanda, particularly in the vital fields of defence cooperation, military education, and regional security collaboration. The college is deeply honoured to play a role in fostering this mutually beneficial and strategic relationship.

The Minister of National Defence of Mozambique, Honourable Minister Maj Gen Cristóvão Artur Chume, along with his delegation also toured the college’s digital learning center, war-gaming and simulation labs, and research facilities, gaining first-hand insight into how the college is building a digitally capable and agile Defence Force.

After the tour, the delegation joined Brig Gen A. Nyamvumba for a group photo session to commemorate the visit. As a mark of respect and appreciation, Honourable Minister Maj Gen Cristóvão Artur Chume signed in the RDFCSC visitors' book and exchanged gifts of appreciation with the Commandant.
