RWANDA DEFENCE FORCE COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE CELEBRATES ZAMBIA’S INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY

Musanze, On 28 October 2024,

The Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College recently joined Zambia in celebrating its 60th Independence Anniversary. To mark the occasion, the College organised refreshments for the entire College fraternity. The celebration had been delayed because the Senior Course students and faculty were on a short break at the end of Term One.

The Republic of Zambia observes its national Independence Day on 24 October, commemorating its independence from the United Kingdom in 1964. The occasion was graced by the Commandant of RDFCSC, Brig Gen Andrew Nyamvumba.

British North Rhodesia, now Zambia, formally gained independence from the United Kingdom and joined the Commonwealth of Nations on 24 October 1964.

During the refreshment, the Zambia national anthem was played.

The Zambian student, Lt Col Cecilia Chitundu, addressed the gathering, highlighting the significance of Zambia’s 60th Independence Anniversary under the theme 60 Years Strong: Honouring Our Heritage, Embracing the Future. She reflected on the historic moment when the British colonial flag was lowered, and the Zambian flag was raised, symbolising freedom. She also expressed Zambia's gratitude to the Rwanda Defence Force, particularly the Command and Staff College, for the enduring tradition of hosting military students and fostering lasting partnerships.

In his remarks, the Commandant of RDFCSC, Brig Gen Andrew Nyamvumba, expressed his honour in celebrating Zambia’s 60th Independence Day. He highlighted the day as a landmark in Zambia’s history, symbolising the resilience and unity of its people. He extended warm Independence Day wishes, particularly to Zambian student officers Lt Col Cecilia Chitundu and Lt Col John Bunda, who were present for the celebration.
