Senior Command and Staff Course (SCSC) 07 Conducted Defensive Operations Tactical Exercise Without Troops (TEWTS) from 30 November to 7 December 2018

Defensive Operations TEWTs nicknamed KAZA IBIRINDIRO is one of the two major field exercises conducted in term two by Students of SCSC. It is a Red Ink Correction (RIC) contributes to the student’s understanding of close operations of a Bde defensive battle within a divisional context. To the students of SCSC 07, Ex KAZA IBIRINDIRO was conducted from 30 November to 7 December 2018, where it was consisted of indoor and an outdoor application in the general area of MUSANZE District.


Ex KAZA IBIRINDIRO, was designed to develop students’ knowledge in defensive operations and test student’s ability to apply Combat Estimate to produce a plan towards the production of written and oral orders.

The Ex KAZA IBIRINDIRO aims at enhancing the individual students’ ability to apply the theoretical knowledge practically in planning for a Bde defensive battle within a divisional context.

Through KAZA IBIRINDIRO, students were practiced on the mechanisms of planning and conducting defensive operations at Bde level of command using a sand model and the actual ground.

At the end of exercise they were able to apply the Combat Estimate as a tool for decision making. Also they were able to discuss various concepts of operations, and the employment of Support Arms in defensive operations.

Students were busy working on the exercise requirements.
