On 9 October 2025, Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College (RDFCSC) joined Ugandan students currently conducting the course  in RDFCSC in commemorating the Republic of Uganda’s 63rd Independence Day.

To mark this historic occasion, RDFCSC hosted the event with a reception that brings together the entire College fraternity including students of the Senior Command and Staff Course 14, faculty members, support staff and UR members. The celebration reflected the spirit of regional unity, mutual respect, and shared heritage, reinforcing the strong bonds between Rwanda and Uganda. The event served as a tribute to Uganda’s journey to sovereignty and its continued progress.

Speaking on behalf of the allied Ugandan students, in his note address, Lt Col Pius Ruhinda a student of RDFCSC14 from UPDF honored the sacrifices of Uganda’s nationalists who fought for independence, emphasizing the country’s achievements in security, infrastructure, education, and health. He praised the resilience and vision of the Ugandan people, which have propelled the nation forward.

Lt Col Ruhinda also extended sincere thanks to the Commandant and the College Leadership of RDFCSC for their commitment to organizing and participating in the celebration. He underscored the importance of unity, shared heritage, and mutual respect among allied nations, noting that such commemorations strengthen bonds and foster regional cooperation.

During the celebration, the Commandant of the Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College, Brigadier General Andrew Nyamvumba, began by warmly recognizing the allied Ugandan students Lt Col Pius Kabah Ruhinda, Maj Paul Chemonges Kali, and Maj Gutaak Ahmed Abdu commending their presence and valuable contributions to the College community.

He emphasized that celebrations such as Uganda’s Independence Day transcend mere national festivities; they are profound moments for all Africans to reflect on our shared history, assess our present, and inspire future generations towards greater unity and progress. Brig Gen A Nyamvumba underscored that such occasions call upon us to embrace the core values that bind us together—respect, dignity, tolerance, and mutual support not only within our individual nations but across the broader global community.

He further noted that Uganda’s independence was not simply the birth of a sovereign state, but a powerful affirmation of an enduring national character. This spirit was eloquently captured by His Excellency President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, who stated:
“The resistance of the people of Uganda has always been based on the principles of freedom, unity and shared prosperity.” This enduring message continues to resonate through the decades, from the struggle for independence to the ongoing journey of nation-building, reminding us all of the strength found in unity and the promise of a shared future.
