RWANDA DEFENCE FORCE COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE OBSERVED BOTSWANA’S INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY

On 30 September 2025

Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College’s fraternity celebrated the 59th Independence Day of Botswana. On this day, the College organized a reception for the entire fraternity to commemorate the event. The celebration was attended by students of Senior Command and Staff Course (SCSC) 14, the RDFCSC Commandant of the college, and the College faculty and staff.

The Independence Day of Botswana, commonly called Boipuso in Setswana, is a national holiday observed in Botswana on September 30 of every year. The date celebrates Botswana's Declaration of Independence from the United Kingdom on September 30, 1966. History shows us that Botswana’s journey to prosperity was built on a foundation of visionary leadership and wise governance. This was exemplified by the first President, Sir Seretse Khama, who championed democracy democracy and unity, famously stated: “we should all guard against the growth of a spirit of selfish nationalism, which can only do harm to our cause. I am a nationalist, but I am first and foremost an African patriot.”

In line with the College tradition, the national anthem of Botswana was played.

The Botswana student, Maj Precious MOKGOSI, addressed the gathering, expressing her honor by celebrating a significant milestone in African history with the college community. She said “today, I am deeply honoured to join the College community in celebrating Botswana’s 59th Independence Anniversary, a moment of pride not only for me, but for our nation and the world at large. Like many African countries, Botswana emerged from colonial rule, having been a British Protectorate for 80 years. In conclusion, as we celebrate this momentous occasion, may we honor the legacy of those who came before us and remain steadfast in our mission to build a better future for Africa as a whole. May God bless Africa, may God bless Rwanda, and may God bless Botswana! PULA! PULA!  PULA!”

Brig Gen A. Nyamvumba, the Commandant of the college, highlighted in his remarks during the ceremony said, “it is a distinct privilege to be with you all as we join our brother, Maj Precious MOKGOSI, in celebrating the Independence Day of his nation, the Republic of Botswana. In a spirit of friendship and mutual respect, I extend our sincere congratulations: Happy Independence Day to the people of Botswana, and to you, Maj Precious MOKGOSI, in particular. This College firmly believes in the importance of celebrating the independence days of our esteemed allied students and staff. It is a vital tradition that allows us to honor the sovereignty of nations and the shared values of peace and self-determination. Once again, congratulations to our Botswanan sister on this special day. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
