SENEGAL INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

Today, on April 4th, 2024

The RDFCSC fraternity celebrated the 64th Independence Day of the United Republic of Senegal and 4 April 2024 respectively. The celebrations were attended by students of SCSC 12, Faculty members, and College Staff.

France established Senegal as a French colony, as a part of the larger French West African territory. Senegal remained under French rule until the transfer of Power agreement signed with France on 4 April 1960. Senegal became a Republic on November 15, 1958, and gained independence on August 20, 1960, under the leadership of President Léopold Sedar Senghor, in office from 1960 to 1980. President Senghor was the first African leader to open up the political sphere by introducing pluralism through openness to the multi-party system, nonetheless in a channeled and controlled manner. President Abdou Diouf took over the reins of Senegal from 1981 to 2000 and authorized the multi-party system.

Ever since Senegal has continued to teach the whole world lessons of democracy with peaceful democratic transitions between elected leaders, while untiringly navigating a long but consistent journey of peace and stability until today. We all witnessed the peaceful transfer of power from the outgoing former president Macky Sall to the newly elected President H.E Bassirou Diomaye Faye.

Brig General JC. NGENDAHIMANA, the faculty members, and RDFSCSC 12 showed their respect for the National Anthem by honoring the flag of Senegal.

The occasion was presided over by the College Deputy Commandant & CI Brig Gen JC. NGENDAHIMANA. On behalf of the whole college fraternity, He congratulated the Senegalese on their 64 years of independence, unity, stability, determination, discipline, and development. He wished the Senegalese student officer Cdr Toure and their compatriots a happy 64th Independence Day Anniversary celebration. He highlighted the good friendship, partnership, and cooperation between the two sister republics of Rwanda and Senegal in many aspects. And at this College, we are proud to yearly host in our midst one Senegalese student officer. Such collaboration serving common interests is what Africa needs to enjoy to the fullest the fruits of its independence from colonialism and neocolonialism.

The student who spoke on behalf of the Senegalese fraternity at the college Maj Cdr Tourre KHADIM, wished to cordially express his sincere appreciation to the RDF Command and Staff College administration and the leadership of our Great Nation for making it possible for them to celebrate this day here in Nyakinama, Musanze.

He addressed the very friendly and constructive relationship between Senegal and Rwanda. The cooperation between Rwanda and Senegal dates back several decades. Since 2004 several agreements have been signed between the two countries. One of the areas of cooperation is in the military area with the exchanges of students. The two countries are now negotiating some other draft agreements on the sectors of health, correctional service, and air service.
