RWANDA DEFENCE FORCE COMMAND AND STAFF COLLEGE OBSERVES THE REPUBLIC OF GUINEA’S INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY
Thursday, 2 October 2025
The Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College (RDFCSC) fraternity celebrated Guinea's 67th Independence Day. To commemorate the event, the College organized a reception for the entire fraternity. Students of Senior Command and Staff Course (SCSC) 14, along with faculty and staff, attended the celebration.

The Republic of Guinea has had a turbulent political history. After rejecting Imperial France`s Loi Cadre, Guinea declared independence on October 2, 1958, two years earlier than other francophone countries in Africa. The land that is now Guinea either bordered or was situated within a series of historic African empires before the French arrived in the 1890s and claimed the terrain as part of colonial French West Africa.

In line with the College tradition, the national anthem of Guinea was played.

The Guinean student Maj Mory KAITA addressed the gathering and said: “it is with great honour to stand before you today not just as a military officer of the Guinean Armed Forces, but as a brother united in celebration a defining moment in the history of the Guinean people. We mark the 67th Independence Day of the Republic of Guinea a moment that stands as a true testament to African courage and audacity. My colleagues, let the profound sacrifice made in Conakry in 1958 and the extraordinary rebirth accomplished here in Rwanda, be the twin inspirations for our service. Let us commit, shoulder to shoulder, to build an Africa where no foreign power ever again dictates our destiny. Let the world know: we are free, we are united, and we will forge the Africa we dream of prosperity in liberty for all! He concluded his speech with that powerful, iconic Pan-Africanist, which states that the liberation of one African nation is intrinsically linked to the liberation of the entire continent. (AST)”

The occasion was graced by the College Commandant Brig Gen A NYAMVUMBA. He said, “it is with great honor today as we gather here to celebrate, alongside our comrade Maj Mory Kaita, the independence day of his homeland, the Republic of Guinea. On behalf of this college, I extend our deepest congratulations to the people of Guinea and particularly to you Maj Mory Kaita. At this institution, we hold a profound respect for the sovereignty of every nation represented here. Celebrating these milestones is a cherished tradition, one that reinforces our shared commitment to peace, self-determination, and the bonds of international fellowship. The bonds between Rwanda and Guinea are rooted in our common destiny as African nations. We are therefore particularly privileged to host Maj Mory KAITA and to contribute to his professional growth. His presence here strengthens the ties between our armed forces and fosters a deeper, and more collaborative spirit across our continent in defence cooperation. Once again, to our esteemed colleague and brother, maj Mory KAITA, we offer our sincerest felicitations. Happy Independence Day to you and to the Great nation of Guinea.”
