TANZANIA AND KENYA INDEPENDENCE DAY CELEBRATION

On December 12th 2023,

The RDFCSC fraternity celebrated the 62nd Independence Day of the United Republic of Tanzania and the 60th Independence Day of the Republic of Kenya on 9 December and 12 December 2023 respectively. The celebrations were attended by students of SCSC 12, Faculty members, and College Staff.

Tanzanians got Independence from the United Kingdom on 9 December 1961 which governed Tanzania since the late 19th century after the Treaty of Versailles. The 62nd Tanzania Independence Day anniversary is being celebrated under the theme “Keep Walking Tanzania”, a shared commitment to move forward together.

Kenya’s flag was hoisted for the first time, marking full independence won from the colonial ruler the British on 12 December 1963 after a long and fierce struggle. The flag embraced the identity of a free people and recalled the sacrifices that had been made to win freedom. At the same time, the Kenyan national anthem was heard for the first time, praying for peace, unity, justice, and liberty and calling Kenyan citizens to serve and defend the motherland. This year’s Independence Day theme is “Youth, Creative Economy and Sports”, in recognition and appreciation of the efforts made by Kenyans in contributing to the nation’s socio-economic and political development.

Brig General A. NYAMVUMBA, the faculty members, and RDFSCSC 12 showed their respect for the National Anthem by honoring the flags of both Countries

The occasion was presided over by the College Commandant Brig Gen A. NYAMVUMBA. He congratulated Tanzania for 62 years of freedom, unity, stability, determination, discipline, and development. He wished the senior officers and their compatriots a happy 62nd Independence Day Anniversary celebration. He also appreciated the pain felt and the sacrifices made by independence heroes. He congratulated Kenyans for their independence and for recognizing that nation-building is not a sprint and noted that no single person or group of persons can make this undertaking alone but rather through teamwork.

The student who spoke on behalf of the Tanzanian fraternity at the college Maj Christopher Christian MARIJANI, wished to cordially express their sincere appreciation to the RDF Command and Staff College administration and the leadership of our Great Nation for making it possible for them to celebrate this day here in Nyakinama, Musanze.

The student who spoke on behalf of the Kenyan fraternity at the college Maj Tom NZOLE MWACHITI reiterated on cordial relationship between the two sister-countries and Defence Forces. He thanked the college leadership and the entire RDF fraternity for finding it worthwhile to prepare for this occasion and mark the day with other Kenyans back at home.
